Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The City of Harare has warned residents to be on alert for possible flash floods this rainy season.
In a notice issued on 5 January 2026, Acting Town Clerk Phakamile Mabhena Moyo said reports of flash floods had already been received from areas including Mbare, Highfields and Waterfalls. Reads the notice:
“The Department of Meteorological Services has advised that Harare is expected to receive normal to above normal rains this season.
“Due to the current excessive rains, we have received reports of flash floods in areas like Mbare, Highfields and Waterfalls, among others.
“The City of Harare, working closely with the Civil Protection Unit, is advising all residents and property owners in low-lying areas to track weather alerts, take heed of the possible flood alerts, be on watch for possible flooding and take appropriate action to avoid risks.
“In case of floods, residents are encouraged to contact our district offices for assistance.”
