Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE is set to become the hub of African volunteerism as it prepares to host the Good Deeds Day African Regional Conference on June 24 and 25. The event, themed “Inclusive Volunteerism for Equitable, Peaceful and Sustainable Development: Leaving No One and No Place Behind,” will bring together nearly 60 leaders from across the continent for a two-day celebration of community impact and collaboration.

Lucia Nkomo, east and southern Africa regional co-ordinator and country director of Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe, said preparations were complete and excitement was mounting.

“We are ready to host a life-changing experience, from cultural immersion to impactful dialogue; this conference will showcase Africa’s heartbeat of compassion. With artistes like Dudu Manhenga, Color Blue and Paiyapo Mbira Arts Group performing, our guests will leave with not only new partnerships but unforgettable memories,” Nkomo said.

Zimbabwe was chosen to be host due to its remarkable progress in championing sustainable development goals through community-led initiatives. Since joining the movement in 2016, Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe has led efforts in clean water provision, youth empowerment, community sanitation projects and education support.

Nkomo said the conference venue, the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), would be abuzz with not only panel discussions and exhibitions but also vibrant cultural displays. The event culminates with a June 26 city tour, including gastronomy tourism inspired by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, where delegates will sample traditional Zimbabwean cuisine, from small-grains sadza to locally-prepared meats.

Delegates from Anglophone and Francophone African nations will begin arriving on June 23 and will depart on June 27. The conference is not only a platform for dialogue, but also a bridge for cross-border collaborations. Local enterprises, creatives and government departments are invited to exhibit their initiatives throughout the five-day programme.

Good Deeds Day, founded in 2007 by American-Israeli philanthropist Shari Arison, is now active in over 117 countries and boasts more than 50 million global participants. In Zimbabwe alone, over 500 000 members have joined, contributing to its growth to be one of the most dynamic and impactful chapters in the network.

“We emulate our founder’s belief that everyday should be filled with goodness,” said Nkomo. “Whether it’s building toilets, mentoring youth, or giving away books and food, we’re proving that doing good doesn’t require wealth, only a heart.”

The upcoming conference is more than a meeting; it is a celebration of values, cultures and a shared African vision. From high-level policy discussions to grassroots storytelling, the gathering aims to amplify volunteerism as a key driver for inclusive development. The organisers are calling on corporates, SMEs, creatives, donors and policy-makers to participate as sponsors, exhibitors or collaborators.

“This is Africa’s moment to shine through kindness. Let us show the world the power of doing well, together,” Nkomo said.
