Hwange Power Station Breaks Down, Again

Africa-PressZimbabwe. ZESA Holdings, the country’s power utility, on Friday said its Hwange Power Station was not generating electricity as a result of a technical fault in the transmission system that knocked the power plant.

The country has been experiencing more frequent and longer power cuts since the onset of winter and the challenge has been compounded by ageing equipment at ZESA’s Hwange Power Station which breaks down constantly.

In a statement yesterday, ZESA said its engineers were working flat out to restore service to optimum levels.

The power utility urged its customers to use available electricity sparing especially during the morning and evening peak period. The statement read:

ZESA Holdings would like to advise its valued customers countrywide that there is limited power supply in the national electricity grid due to a technical fault in the transmission system, leading to generation incapacitation at Hwange Power Station.

Restoration of service to optimum levels is currently underway and customers are advised to use the available power sparingly, especially during the morning peak periods of 0500hrs to 1000hrs and evening peak periods of 1700hrs to 2100hrs.

Customers will be updated as the situation improves.

The inconvenience caused is sincerely
