Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Self-exiled former Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jonathan Moyo has denied reports that he at some point sought to join the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.
The Political Science Professor made the remarks this Monday while responding to a Twitter post by Stephen Chan, a Professor of World Politics at The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London. Chan’s post read:
I understand Jonathan Moyo did indeed seek to join the CCC. Thankfully that fell through as his record is hardly one of loyalty. But he has made astute comments on the need for party structure.
Certainly, the West NEEDS to know WHO is in the front bench of what should be projected as a government-in-waiting, With whom in each specialist portfolio, e.g. health, education, justice, agriculture, industry, finance, foreign affairs & defence will the West be dealing? So is it a GOVERNMENT-in-waiting, or simply a President-in-waiting.
In response, Moyo said:
Stephen, this is very unprofessional and unacceptable. I categorically state that I never sought to join CCC and would not be so foolish to join a structureless party without a joining mechanism. @nelsonchamisa has to correct this otherwise I’ll do so myself. We parted in Nov 21!
The CCC morphed from the MDC Alliance in January 2022 when MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora claimed that the name MDC and its derivatives belonged to his party.
