Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) has pledged to deliver a robust Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme to help members adapt to the rapidly changing technology landscape in the insurance sector.

CPD is the ongoing process of learning, training, and skill enhancement that professionals undertake throughout their careers to maintain and improve their knowledge, competencies, and performance in their field.

In an interview with NewsDay Business on the sidelines of the institute’s recent Winter School held in Kariba, IIZ president Clementine Chinyuku committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

“I am a passionate advocate for continuous learning, viewing it as the cornerstone of personal and professional growth,” she said.

“In a fast-paced and ever-changing world, embracing continuous learning is vital for staying relevant, sharpening competitiveness and finding true fulfilment. It nurtures individual growth, enhances career paths and boosts adaptability to new challenges and technologies.

At IIZ, we champion the idea that learning is a lifelong journey. Our robust Continuous Professional Development programme empowers members to earn CPD hours by attending our various training programmes and staying abreast of industry trends. This initiative goes beyond compliance; it equips professionals with the essential tools to remain relevant, agile and competitive.”

She said it was only at the end of the year that IIZ celebrated top performers, fostering a vibrant culture of excellence and a commitment to lifelong learning.

“We stand at a pivotal crossroads where advancements in technology, shifts in consumer behaviour, and increasing regulatory requirements are redefining our operations. The concept of an ‘odyssey’ serves as an inspiring metaphor for a strategic and deep personal journey that every professional in the field is called to undertake,” Chinyuku said.

“In this journey, it is essential for individuals to not only adapt to these changes, but also to take proactive steps in shaping their careers to align with the industry’s promising future.

“Our aim is for insurance professionals to have a clear understanding of their career trajectories, empowered with the knowledge and confidence to embrace innovation within their roles.”

IIZ is equipping professionals with the essential tools to remain relevant, agile and competitive, preparing professionals for the digital era by incorporating digital literacy, insurtech and data analytics into its training programmes.

“We strive to foster an environment that encourages exploration, collaboration and the sharing of insights, enabling professionals to navigate the complexities of the industry and emerge as visionary leaders in their fields,” Chinyuku said.

She said technology was a powerful catalyst driving the transformation of Zimbabwe’s insurance sector.

“It is revolutionising how insurers operate, engage with clients and deliver exceptional value. Through mobile payment systems, digital claims processing apps and automated underwriting systems, technology boosts efficiency, enhances customer experience and broadens access to insurance, particularly in underserved communities,” Chinyuku said.

“The institute understands that thriving in this digital era requires professionals to possess both technical knowledge and adaptive skills. That’s why we have woven digital literacy, insurtech and data analytics into our training programmes and CPD offerings. By collaborating with tech experts and innovators, we deliver workshops, webinars and short courses that tackle emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and cybersecurity in insurance.”
