Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE inaugural Zimbabwe Pickleball National Tournament is set to take place tomorrow at the Hornung Park Club in Bulawayo.
The event coincides with Africa Pickleball Day, a continent-wide celebration marking the founding of the Confederation of African Pickleball.
The tournament will feature teams from Harare, Bulawayo and Mashonaland East, competing for the slot to represent Zimbabwe at the regional championships.
Winners at the regional level will advance to continental and then global finals.
The event follows the successful conclusion of three provincial qualifying tournaments, with Bulawayo hosting the final one last week.
Participants, including players over 50, will compete in a round-robin format, with matches in both singles and doubles categories.
Pickleball, a fast-paced racket sport new to Zimbabwe, was officially registered with the Sports and Recreation Commission last year.
Since then, the sport has experienced a surge in popularity, leading to this weekend’s national showdown.
