Former Dynamos defender Emmanuel Jalai has joined South African Premiership side Durban City Football Club on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old right-back spent six seasons with Dynamos, eventually becoming club captain.

Jalai was also part of the Zimbabwe Warriors squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

On Sunday, he posted a farewell message to Dynamos fans, thanking them for their support, “especially during the hardest times.” He said:

“After 6 years at Dynamos Football Club, now is the time to confirm that I’m leaving the club for new challenges.

“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me. Thank you for the love and support I’ve always felt, thank you for always having my back, especially during the hardest times.

“The Honor of wearing the armband of this great club is a memory that will live with me forever.

“7 million supporter I will FOREVER remain one of you.

“Thank you so much to the coaches, teammates, staff and the 7 Million supporters for the last 6 years.

“I wish the club the very best for this coming season and many seasons to come.

“My Love For The Club Will Never Die.”

On Monday, Dynamos released a statement wishing Jalai well in his future endeavours and announced that his Number 2 jersey would be retired for the 2026 season. Reads the statement:

“Dynamos Football Club would like to wholeheartedly thank our outgoing Captain, Emmanuel Jalai, as he embarks on his next chapter.

“Both Dynamos FC and Jalai had intended to conclude a new deal ahead of the 2026 season.

“However, this could not materialise following the emergence of interest from a foreign club.

“As a result, the number 2 will not be part of the Glamour Boys’ squad for the upcoming 2026 season.

“Over our 63-year history, many outstanding players have proudly worn the blue and white of DeMbare.

“Emmanuel ranks among the very best of them and stands as one of the true icons of the domestic game.

“It has always been Emmanuel’s professional ambition to secure a move to South Africa or Europe.

“In recognition of his immense contribution to the club over six seasons, Dynamos FC could not stand in his way.

“His move speaks volumes about his dedication, discipline, and work ethic, while also reflecting the strength of the Dynamos brand, one that helped propel him into a Warriors international and a household name.

“We are fully confident that Emmanuel will continue to excel at his new club and that even greater opportunities lie ahead for him.

“Lastly, Dynamos Football Club expresses its sincere gratitude to Jalai for his sacrifices and commitment, having represented the club in over 180 matches.

“He will always remain part of the Dynamos family, and we will continue to support and celebrate his success.”

In a statement on social media, Durban City said: “Durban City FC welcomes Emmanuel Jalai to the Citizens family. An experienced right-back with international pedigree.”
