Kaykid Umfanomsothu Tackles Heartbreak in Inhliziyo

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. AFROPOP artiste Kaykid Umfanomsothu is set to release his emotionally-charged single, Inhliziyo, on July 25, a heartbreak anthem that delves deep into the painful reality of unrequited love and emotional betrayal.

The song, which features Khwezi, tells the story of a devoted man whose efforts to love and provide are overlooked by a partner who ultimately breaks his heart.

“It’s not your usual love song,” Kaykid told NewsDay Life & Style.

“We are not celebrating love this time — we’re mourning it.”

Inhliziyo, which translates to “heart,” is a shift from Kaykid’s typically joyful catalog.

“My previous songs are for weddings, birthdays — people dance and celebrate. But this one? This one hits differently. It’s emotional, deep, but still vibe,” he said.

The track was recorded two years ago with Mdu and Khwezi, recorded by Donny Chords and later mixed and mastered by Kuda Kay.

Kaykid explained that the creative process evolved as the story came together: “At first, I didn’t know what direction I wanted to take with the song. But as I started writing, it became clear — I had to tell this story.”

The music video adds another emotional layer, depicting a man returning home with a ring, ready to propose, only to find his girlfriend cheating.

“It’s a reality check. Girls should be patient in love. Not everything is about money. If your man is trying, meet him halfway,” he said.

With Inhliziyo, he said he hoped to spark reflection, especially among young couples. “Love is a two-way street. Don’t fold your hands and expect the man to do it all.”

Fans, he says, should brace for “fireworks, emotions and a deep message.”

Kaykid is an Afropop artiste known for his distinct sound, which blends emotive storytelling with catchy rhythms. He recently made waves with his hit single Amawala, which dominated local radio charts for several weeks.
