Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. AFRO-SOUL artist Khwezi ZW, known for his deeply personal and introspective music, is set to release his latest track, Masibambaneni, on Friday.
The track, part of a larger project titled Echoes of Silence, is supported by the British Council, the embassy of Switzerland and Kay Media Africa.
He told NewsDay Life & Style that the song is rooted in storytelling and healing, and carries a powerful message:
“Talking it through can help… depression can be snuffed out if we spread love and compassion more,” he said.
Khwezi said the song was a call to action to address social ills and to encourage open conversation around mental health and emotional well-being.
“In this project, I stick to what Khwezi ZW stands for — tackling real-life issues through honest storytelling,” he said.
What makes this release even more special is Khwezi’s collaboration with the Matopo High School Choir. Reflecting on this partnership, he shared, “Matopo is a hub of musical talent. It is where I was groomed musically for six years. It felt like going back home and working with my family.”
He added that his connection to the school ran deep. “My first vocal coach, Khanyisile Madonko, was a student there. Matopo shaped so much of who I am as an artiste,” he added.
Through Masibambaneni, Khwezi ZW said he continued to carve out a space in Zimbabwe’s music scene that was raw, reflective and transformational — reminding listeners of the healing power of music and community.
