Khwezi ZW reflects on song success

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. BULAWAYO-BASED creative Khwezi ZW is still in awe following the unexpected viral success of his song Masibambaneni, a heartfelt collaboration with the Matopo High School Choir that has captured the hearts of thousands across Zimbabwe and beyond.

“Honestly speaking, the reception was more than I expected,” Khwezi said in reflection.

“Hitting 20 100 views on TikTok, 7 000 on Instagram, 7 000 on Facebook and 4 000 on YouTube — all organic, with no ads or sponsorship — it honestly feels like a dream. I won’t lie.

“The comments section is just beaming with love and excitement.”

The song, whose title Masibambaneni means “let’s unite”, blends traditional choral vocals with contemporary rhythms, creating a sound that resonates deeply with audiences.

The school choir’s raw talent and emotional delivery have been widely praised and many believe it’s a shining example of the power of youth collaboration in the arts.

Khwezi, reflecting on what it took to pull off such a powerful production, shared advice for creatives looking to work with school choirs.

“Work with a crowd you believe in,” he said.

“It starts with the vision — you visualise it vividly, then you execute.”

He emphasised the importance of structure and planning: “Have a good team to help you to plan your dates. Strategy is very crucial.”

And above all, financial readiness plays a big role, he said.

“Make sure you have the right financial standing or make sound deals before execution,” Kwezi said.

“It will boost your production and make things easier.”

Masibambaneni has done more than just go viral — it has sparked conversations, inspired other creatives and reminded the city that authenticity, teamwork, and belief in community can lead to greatness.
