ZANU-PF’s First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, has implored the party to revisit the 2018 election manifesto, which was at the cornerstone of its resounding electoral victory in the 2018 harmonised elections.

The core pledges encompassed in the document included economic empowerment and keeping Zimbabwe on an investor-friendly trajectory leading to economic growth and job creation.

The manifesto was themed “Unite, Fight Corruption, Develop, Re-engage and Create Jobs”.

Addressing the 337th Ordinary Session of the Zanu-PF Politburo at the party headquarters Wednesday, President Mnangagwa encouraged every department to revisit the manifesto to measure progress achieved so far.

“As you are aware, we are fast approaching the half-way mark since we held our last elections,” he said.

“Each department of the party must re-visit the manifesto to measure our progress in the implementation of the programes laid therein.

“We expect reports highlighting concrete milestones achieved to date by each department.”

Targets within the manifesto yet to be achieved, President Mnangagwa said, should be met by departments adding the party must deliver on the promises they made.

“Those targets within the manifesto that are lagging behind must be highlighted and intervention strategies proffered by the departments.

“The party must deliver on the promises we made in 2018,” he said.

Negative attention, he said, should not disrupt the party highlighting unity and discipline must be observed.

“The party cannot afford to be pre-occupied with sideshows and negative noises made to cause despondency among our membership,” he said.

“The party should remain united and disciplined with us members of the Politburo leading by example.

“Let us never allow personal interests and ambitions to rise to levels which threaten the collective good of our party.”

Energy, the President said, should be redirected to building the party and harnessing economic productivity. He urged Politburo members to adhere to the dictates of the party constitution and remain disciplined.

“Our energies should be focused towards party building, harmony and unity as well as increased economic productivity as we interact with our communities.

“Comrades, the constitution of the party outlines the duties of each member. I urge us to constantly read and adhere to those provisions of the constitution.

“We do not expect the leaders to put the party into disrepute, let us exercise great discipline when dealing with the media and seek to build and not tear down our party and its leadership,” President Mnangagwa added.
