Local firms donate goods worth millions of dollars

Local companies are living up to their commitment to assist the government in the fight against the deadly COVID-19. And this Wednesday saw companies in the tourism sector, gain wholesalers, Cottco, F.A.W and Coverlink micro insurance presenting goods worth millions of dollars for the COVID-19 response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House

Local companies continue to support the government in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic following President Mnangagwa’s appeal for assistance. Various companies in the tourism sector that include Africa sun represented by Mr Edwin Shangwa the finance director, chief executive rainbow tourism group Mr Tendai Madziwanyika and Mr Mxolisi Ndlovu Cresta Group Finance Manager donated linen worth millions of dollars and various other essentials for use by the frontline workers.

Mr Liberty Murimwathe Chief Executive of Gain Wholesalers, Ms Nyaradzo Muriro from FAW, Mr Pious Manamike Cottco Acting Chief Executive and Coverlink Micro Insurance General Manager, Mr Emmanuel Zvada also presented to the president a variety of goods ranging from groceries, a 75-horse power tractor that can be used to disinfect public places, masks and sanitizers for the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

President Mnangagwa applauded the companies for extending a hand at a critical time when Government is fighting to contain the spread of Covid-19. He said he is fully aware of the impact of this pandemic, and the devastation it has caused to other nations.

The President also commended companies that have diverted their line of production for PPEs and universities that are producing sanitizers and PPEs to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Deputy chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on COVID-19 Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri who is also the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs assured the companies that donated that the taskforce will put everything to good use.

Ministers of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry and Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works and National Housing Cde Marian Chombo, several senior government officials and ZTA senior management witnessed the handover ceremony held at State House.
