Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. PHD Ministries founder Walter Magaya’s bodyguard, Tapiwa Felix Chikondo, 35, has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on charges of defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said police launched an investigation following a rape complaint against Magaya. During the inquiry, Chikondo, who serves as the cleric’s bodyguard, allegedly interfered with witnesses.
According to the NPA, in November 2025, Chikondo contacted the complainant’s mother to discourage her from cooperating with law enforcement and facilitated communication between her and Magaya.
He allegedly sent US$200 via EcoCash to the complainant’s mother, purportedly to cover transport to Harare to “settle” the matter.
On 28 November 2025, Chikondo visited the complainant’s home to discuss the case and was cautioned that interfering with a police investigation is illegal.
An EcoCash agent’s register, recovered by police on 1 December 2025, linked him to the transaction.
Chikondo was arrested on 2 December 2025, and the matter was adjourned to 5 December for a bail ruling. Said the NPA:
“No individual, regardless of social standing or affiliation, is permitted to obstruct police investigations.
“Attempts to influence witnesses or derail due process are serious offences, and the State will act decisively to protect the administration of justice.”
