Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. GWERU, April. 11 (NewsDay Live) – Johhane The Fifth of Africa leader, Archbishop Andby Makururu, has held a national prayer day in Gweru, Midlands province, ahead of the 45th Independence Day celebrations to be held in the province next week.

This year’s celebrations will be held in Nembudziya, Gokwe.

Makururu took the opportunity to pray for an accident-free Easter holidays.

“April 18, 2025, we will be at the national event as we will be marking the Independence Day celebrations,” Makururu said.

“We are almost done with the logistics and we are going to pitch our own tents as a church.

“We complement each other with the government and this is the reason we have been praying for peace.”

Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution permanent secretary Edgar Seenza applauded the church for praying for peace in the country.

“I have known Archbishop Andby Makururu from Mutare. We worked together in Mutare. We worked very well,” Seenza said.

“I have been sent by [Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution] minister Owen Ncube to give you his message. I am proud of this church. Zanu PF and the church share a strong cordial relationship.

“I want to thank him for his divine prayers as he has been praying for peace in the country.”

The church was established in 1997 and has branches across the country and worldwide.

Makururu has on several times met President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.
