MDC National Organising Secretary Amos Chibaya, who is facing charges of failing to comply with a police prohibition order against a planned demonstration on the 16th of this month, in contravention of the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) has been granted ZWL$400 bail.
It is the state’s case that on the 6th of August, Chibaya notified Harare Central Police District of an intended public demonstration which was meant to be held in Harare Central Business District.
However, on the 15th of August, Chibaya was served with a prohibition notice by Superintendent Billa Simbanechako but he allegedly convened a public demonstration in defiance of the notice and a High Court order issued on the same day.
Chibaya will be back in court on the 12th of next month and was ordered not to interfere with state witnesses.
Meanwhile, a 29 year old Congolese national Aburahamu Tuyushime has appeared in court facing allegations of money laundering.
Tuyishime who has another case before the courts after being found with multiple fake national identity cards acted in connivance with accomplices who are still at large to copy and manufacture a duplicate of Rueben Tapera’s debit card.
It is further alleged that Tuyushime proceeded to N. Richards wholesalers in Msasa where he unlawfully purchased goods worth almost US$5 000 using the bank card in question.
In another case, a 28 year old Harare man Zvenyika Chibanda appeared in court facing charges of stealing National Railways of Zimbabwe property in April this year.
It is the state’s case that on the 23rd of April this year, Chibanda stole 10 railway sleepers and a 2-metre rail in contravention of the Railway Act.
Meanwhile, the matter of ZINARA Finance Director Simon Taranhike who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office and corruption has been deferred to the 11th of next month.
