Africa-PressZimbabwe. An MDC Alliance Councillor who defected to MDC T was on Friday elected Mutare Deputy Mayor, ZimMorning Post reports.

Fari Bhiza who is now backing Douglas Mwonzora polled 7 voted ahead of Simon Chabuka’s 5 votes in the mayoral elections.

The election of Bhiza through a special council meeting was confirmed by Mutare Mayor Blessing Tandi who spoke to the publication. A councilor who refused to be named said people are failing to accept that Mwonzora has taken over:

You can see for yourself that the results have spoken. Bhiza is aligned to Mwonzora and that means all the councillors that voted him have crossed the floor to Mwonzora. Those that have voted for him have sold out. This is the sad reality that people are failing to accept that Mwonzora and his party have taken over. We will wait and see how things will go at council.

The City had a total of 18 MDC Alliance Councillors before Mwonzora recalled some last year.
