Mliswa calls for extension of voters roll inspection exercise; disappointed by low turnout

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. NORTON Member of Parliament (MP) Temba Mliswa has expressed disappointment at the low turnout of Zimbabweans inspecting Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) voters roll.

The exercise started last week and ended Friday, a period Mliswa said was too short and should be extended.

Already, its credibility has been put into question, with some senior opposition supporters failing to locate their names despite having registered and voted in past elections.

ZEC, the election management body, says the errors can be rectified and there is no need for citizens to make noise about such anomalies.

Opposition supporters on the other hand believe this is a ploy to rig August elections in favour of incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mliswa had failed to find his name at Dudley Hall School before being directed by ZEC officials to his ward where he eventually confirmed it.

“I am glad to say that my name was found, disappointingly not many people are checking their names,” said Mliswa

“Being the last day (Friday), I urge you to check your names. I think there is a need for an extension because there is a lot of confusion.”

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) President Nelson Chamisa confirmed his name at Kuwadzana 2 polling station earlier this week.

His lieutenants, including former cabinet ministers David Coltart and Welshman Ncube, revealed they had been moved to polling stations far from their homes.
