Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE, July 31, 2025 (NewsDay Live) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has demanded comprehensive reports on the impact of the disbursed Presidential empowerment funds across the country.
The initiative, being spearheaded by Presidential adviser Paul Tungwarara, has seen millions of dollars being disbursed to war veterans, women and youths.
Speaking at a politburo meeting Wednesday in Harare, Mnangagwa emphasised the need for diligent implementation of empowerment programmes to ensure they achieve their intended objectives.
“The various empowerment programmes that we continue to roll out should be diligently implemented to ensure that all projects realise their intended objectives,” he said.
“The youth, the women and the war veterans programmes must continue to evolve to benefit more members.”
Mnangagwa said he expects thorough accountability on how the funds have been utilised and their tangible impact on communities.
“I expect detailed reports on the impact and extent that these projects have realised transformation in our communities, province by province,” he said.
He said national programmes should uplift the majority of citizens.
“There is no room for opportunism and a self-centred leadership in Zimbabwe,” the President said.
“Our programmes and our projects must benefit the majority of our people.”
One of the flagship programmes, the Presidential War Veterans Fund, has disbursed US$1,5 million nationwide, with each province receiving US$150 000 to support livelihood projects.
These interest-free loans are meant to empower veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle to engage in productive ventures, ensuring their continued contribution to national development.
In addition to financial support, the government has rolled out the Presidential War Veterans Housing Scheme, which aims to provide 100 houses per province as a pilot project.
This initiative also includes borehole drilling to improve access to clean water.
Plans are underway to allocate 50 000 urban housing stands to war veterans, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to their welfare.
Millions have also been injected in youths and women empowerment projects.
