Mnangagwa Threatens To Expel ‘Meddling’ NGOs

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday threatened to expel Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that have deviated from their mandate and are now meddling in politics.

Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing ZANU PF supporters at a rally held at Chaminuka Primary School in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza yesterday. He said:

Non-governmental organisations in this country who do not follow our mandate, I will chase them away from this country.

They must just do what they profess, what they declared they want to do in this country, this country can do without them.

President Mnangagwa’s administration is currently working on the controversial Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill, 2021, a proposed law that seeks to control the operations of NGOs in the country.

The Government says proposed amendments seek to combat money laundering and financing of terrorism in Zimbabwe through Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs).

However, activists insist the proposed amendments will interfere with the operations of NGOs if passed into law.
