Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, has appointed a seven-member board for EmpowerBank, with Bona Chikore, daughter of the late former President Robert Mugabe, named as deputy chairperson.

The appointments, which carry a four-year term, were announced in Statutory Instrument 132 of 2026 by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Solomon Mhlanga.

Machakaire made the appointments in line with the provisions of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act.

The new board will be chaired by William Chaitezvi. Other members appointed to the board are Margaret Mupfiga, Patience Matshe, Ebrahim Ali Makunganya, Marcos Nyaruwanga and Peter Makotsi.

EmpowerBank is a youth-focused microfinance bank that provides affordable loans, savings products and financial literacy programmes aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs and marginalised communities.
