Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Destiny for Africa Network (DAN) is set to mobilize nationwide support for prisoners and their families, church leader Obadiah Musindo announced.
The initiative was unveiled during a DAN meeting in Harare yesterday attended by pastors and chaplains from across all provinces.
Addressing journalists, Musindo said the program would be coordinated through prison chaplains to ensure effective and transparent delivery of aid.
“We are going to work with the chaplains in prison to mobilise support for prisoners,” Musindo said.
“DAN will coordinate programmes with these chaplains, and the programme is guaranteed to be a transparent one, to be a powerful programme that will assist not only the prisoners but their family members.”
He highlighted the often-overlooked plight of the families left behind when a person is incarcerated.
“If somebody is incarcerated for five years, what is happening to the kids out there? What is happening to the family, to the parents? We need to intervene and assist,” Musindo said.
The network, which has been running social empowerment programs since 2003, will leverage its existing structure to provide this critical support, marking a significant expansion of its charitable mission to one of the most vulnerable segments of society.
Msindo also announced the rollout of ‘DAN housing projects targeting church leaders and their congregants.
The housing and construction project will feature a range of residential options, from low to high density, and will also introduce agro-residential plots ranging from one to five hectares.
“We will be assisting many pastors to get church stands,” he said.
“And with the help we have been getting for years from the government. And with our own innovative programmes, we’ll be able to achieve our goal.
“Every pastor must be empowered. Every pastor must plan his future. That is the purpose of this meeting.”
