Mutasa district has been challenged to fully embrace the devolution agenda by fully utilising abundant land and natural resources to boost the district’s Gross Domestic Product.
In line with the national development strategy, the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs who is also the Zanu pf National Chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri challenged Mutasa district, to take advantage of vast opportunities presented by the agriculture sector to boost the Gross Domestic Product.
“Let’s not waste time. Mutasa must be one of the richest districts in the country. We must utilize our land taking advantage of the climatic conditions to grow avocadoes, macadamia, increasing tea and coffee production among crops that earn the country foreign currency receipts. We need to fully utilize our land and create jobs. The President allocated 6.1 billion out of 18 billion budget to go towards agriculture which we should take advantage of.”
Cde Muchinguri says mining should be part of the development master plan underscoring the importance of people in Mutasa ploughing back towards the development of their communities.
“The people of Mutasa have the responsibility to develop their area hence the need to plough back into society. The initiative by the Muduvuri foundation to assist fellow disabled people is one such encouraging initiative that should be emulated by many,” she said.
Cde Muchinguri says the district should shun corruption to achieve its development objectives while residents who attended the distribution COVID-19 materials and basic commodities in Mutasa this Saturday say it is critical for residents to appreciate and support the party and government development agenda.
Meanwhile, the vice-chairperson of the national Covid-19 taskforce says the people should play their part to curb the spread of coronavirus and complement government efforts to its spread.
The devolution policy adopted by the government allows provinces and districts to implement development strategies using natural resources and elements in their localities.
