Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. LEAGUE debutants MWOS FC will be looking to etch their name into history this afternoon when they host a tricky Triangle United side in a Chibuku Super Cup semi-final clash at Ngoni Stadium.

The high-flying Norton-based club is chasing the dream of becoming the first newly promoted side to lift the prestigious knockout trophy since Ngezi Platinum Stars achieved the feat back in 2016.

For The Punters, who have enjoyed a remarkable debut season, the Chibuku Super Cup now represents their most realistic path to silverware.

Lying third in the league table and trailing log leaders Scottland FC by seven points with only three matches left, the recent league defeat to the leaders has all but extinguished their title ambitions.

Head coach Lloyd Mutasa, speaking at the pre-match Press conference, emphasised the need for his side to immediately put the league setback behind them. “We are trying not to let past results get into our heads,” Mutasa said.

“The loss to Scotland was bitter, but we need to move on from it and focus on the games that are left to play. We still have a chance to lift some silverware this season, and we need to focus on that.

The players are unfazed and they know that losses happen in football; all we need to do is move on from it quickly.”

The focus now shifts entirely to the one-off knockout tie against a relegation-threatened Triangle, who themselves are former winners of the competition.

Speaking specifically about the enormous pressure that comes with a semi-final tie, Mutasa highlighted the match’s significance in shaping their season.

“I have lost my fair share of semi-finals, and they are very important. How you win them also sets

the tone for how you approach the final. If we can get into the final, we will be one step closer to getting some silverware in our first season in the elite league.”

Mutasa was also quick to acknowledge the threat posed by their visitors.

“They are a good team. Having Genesis Mangombe as the coach makes it an interesting game with all the experience he has. When you look at where he took Triangle from and where they are now, you will see how much quality they have. We must be at our best to get over them.”

The coach has reported a fully fit squad, with the team looking to bounce back with a strong performance buoyed by their home support.

“The fans have been amazing, we are appealing to them not to tire in supporting us. We are home and we hope to win the game,” he said.

Triangle, however, come to Ngoni Stadium severely hampered, missing the suspended trio of Ali Maliselo, Jordan Pedra and Aaron Zeka. This absence could play a crucial role, potentially disrupting their rhythm and defensive solidity against a MWOS side hungry for a historic victory.

With both teams fighting for redemption — MWOS for a trophy and Triangle for league survival —

this semi-final promises to be a tense, high-stakes battle for a place in the Chibuku Super Cup final.
