Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE magistrate Donald Ndirowei has dismissed an application by former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi to have his bail altered due to changed circumstances.
Mzembi, through his lawyer Killian Mandiki, initially made the application for cancellation of warrants.
However, the court dismissed the application stating that it was invalid since Mzembi allegedly wilfully defaulted court, adding that his bail should be revoked.
In the ruling for cancellation of warrants, Ndirowei said there was no explanation as to why Mzembi defaulted.
The magistrate said Mzembi was not ill as he was Saviour Kasukuwere’s campaigner during the 2023 elections and was active on his social media platforms.
Mzembi was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for breaching bail conditions for his two cases in which he is accused of theft of trust property.
Another warrant of arrest is for failure to return a passport when he was given the travelling document for a specific number of days.
