Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Young Warriors coach, Tonderai Ndiraya, has expressed satisfaction with his charges’ performance in their drawn COSAFA Under-20 championship match against South Africa on Thursday.
The Young Warriors assembled only 9 days before the match at Wolfson Stadium, in Port Elizabeth, and twice went ahead but had to settle for a draw after Amajita equalised for a second time towards the end of the match. Said Ndiraya:
This was our first competitive match, with a team assembled, and which only trained for 10 days.
So, I am happy about the way they went about their business.
We couldn’t go pound-for-pound because of our fitness levels, so we sat back (to try and defend their lead).
We conceded a soft goal, but I am glad for my boys, who were playing a strong team.
Zimbabwe scored through Panashe Mutimbanyoka and Lexington Mujokoro while South Africa got their goals from Oswin Appolis and Mohlala Makola.
In an earlier Group A match, Mozambique beat Lesotho 1-0. Zimbabwe takes on Mozambique this Saturday, in their second match, before playing Lesotho on 8 December.
