Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Harare-based preacher Alistar Chibanda has issued a public apology following his controversial comments about the popular all-women event, Doek & Slay.
In a statement released on Saturday, 20 December, Chibanda expressed regret for engaging in cyberbullying and making derogatory statements about women who attend the event. He described his words and actions as “wrong, disrespectful, and completely unjustified.”
He took full responsibility for any harm, offence, or distress his statements may have caused to the organisers, participants, and the wider community that supports the event. Wrote Chibanda:
“I would like to unreservedly apologise for my actions in relation to the Doek & Slay event, particularly for engaging in cyberbullying and for making derogatory and hurtful statements about women who attend the event. My words and conduct were wrong, disrespectful, and completely unjustified.
“I acknowledge that Doek & Slay is a platform that uplifts, empowers, and celebrates women, and my actions undermined those values.
“I take full responsibility for the harm, offence, and distress my statements may have caused to the organisers, participants, and the wider community of women who identify with and support the event.
“There is no excuse for cyberbullying or for language that demeans or disrespects women. Upon reflection, I recognise that my behaviour did not reflect integrity, maturity, or empathy. I am truly ashamed of the impact my words may have had.
“I am committed to learning from this mistake, correcting my behaviour, and ensuring that I engage more responsibly and respectfully on public platforms going forward. Please accept this apology as a genuine expression of remorse.
“Once again, I am deeply sorry for my actions and for the damage they may have caused to the Doek & Slay brand and its community.”
