Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The former president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Peter Mutasa, has been elected as the chairperson of Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition (CiCZ).

The election was conducted online this Wednesday and Mutasa emerged the winner after polling 53% of the vote against his rival Samuel Wadzayi who received 47% of the votes.

Wadzayi is the director of an organisation that represents vendors known as the Vendors Initiative for Socio-Economic Transformation (VISET).

Busi Dube was elected vice-chairperson after polling 69% ahead of Alice Kuvheya who polled 31%.

Kuvheya is the director of the Chitungwiza Residents Trust (CHITREST).

Other board members are; Obert Masaraure (president of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe), the spokesperson, and Gamuchirai Mukura, treasurer.

The election was initially held in December last year but was abandoned after suspected ZANU PF activists disrupted the elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) to block Mutasa from being elected.

The disruptions necessitated the holding of the election virtually.

CiCZ brings together more than 87 civil society organisations coordinating social, political, and economic consciousness in Zimbabwe.
