Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The full statement issued by ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the arrest of suspects linked to armed robbery cases involving gold carbons.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Candy Moyo (27), Busani Ndlovu (20), Prince Moyo (31) and Tavona Zhou (45) in connection with a spate of armed robbery cases involving the theft of gold carbons which occurred between 11 August 2022 and 28 September 2022 in Filabusi and Esigodini.
On 29 September 2022, detectives in Filabiusi arrested Candy Moyo after receiving information that linked him to robbery cases targeting gold carbons.
The suspect implicated Busani Ndlovu and Prince Moyo who were arrested at Macoomba Mine, Filabusi.
Further investigations by the Police led to the arrest of Tavona Zhou and the recovery of a get-away vehicle, a Honda Fit, registration number AFN 0092.
The suspects are linked to three cases of armed robbery which include the one which occurred on 11 August 2022 where the suspects pounced at Cowslip 37 Mine, whilst armed with machetes, a bolt cutter and a hammer, before stealing 400 kgs of gold carbons valued at US$417 000.00.
In another case which occurred on 1st September 2022 at True Blue Mine, Filabusi, the suspects attacked the complainant before stealing 100 kgs of gold carbons, while on 28th September 2022 the suspects attacked two complainants before stealing ZWL$80.00, a cellphone and 250kgs of gold carbons.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspects’ accomplices, only identified as Honest Phiri, Nqobile Dube, Joachim Mangena and Marko Moyo.
