Police ‘Discharge’ Joanna Mamombe From Hospital

30

MDC Alliance MP Joanna Mamombe was on Tuesday afternoon forcibly discharged from hospital by eight anti-riot police officers, after a provisional warrant for her arrest had been issued by a Harare magistrate earlier in the day.

The warrant of arrest was issued against her for failure to appear in court notwithstanding representations by her lawyers that she is in hospital. Her part said in a statement:

Police have stormed the hospital where Joana Mamombe is receiving treatment. They are taking her away. A warrant of arrest was issued against her for failure to appear in court notwithstanding representations by her lawyers that she is in hospital.

Mamombe’s lawyer Alec Muchadehama told Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande that she failed to attend court, as she was admitted at a health centre in Harare.

Mamombe and two other MDC-Alliance members, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are facing allegations of faking their abductions.
