Police open hotlines amid surge in Magaya complaints

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The police say they have opened dedicated hotlines for victims across the world to report rape, assault, and fraud allegations against Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founder, Walter Magaya, amid a surge in international complaints.

Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police had taken note of several inquiries from individuals in Zimbabwe and abroad seeking guidance on how to lodge formal complaints against the controversial preacher.

Magaya is in remand prison after he was arrested last weekend, and is facing fraud and rape charges

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has availed cellphone number 0776 830 226, National Complaints number (0242) 703631, and WhatsApp number 0712 800 197 for anyone to freely report and allow the police to conduct investigations,” said Nyathi in a statement.

He said victims and witnesses from Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and other countries were encouraged to come forward without fear.

“For those in South Africa, please go to your local police station to make a report, have your statement notarised, and ensure it is formally submitted to the Zimbabwean Embassy,” Nyathi added.

The police spokesperson warned that any attempts to intimidate witnesses, tamper with evidence, or obstruct investigations would result in arrests.

“The ZRP warns individuals and syndicates trying to interfere with investigations or threaten witnesses that they risk being arrested for defeating or obstructing the course of justice,” he said.
