Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has announced plans to build a secondary runway and a new cargo terminal at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International (RGMI) Airport.

In a statement, ACZ said the projects will occupy all land within the restricted Red Zone and that discussions on compensation with affected landowners will be held. It said:

“It is hereby notified that the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (Private) Limited (“ACZ”) is now working on the development of a secondary runway and cargo terminal, which will occupy all land in the restricted Red Zone of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

“All affected land owners/occupiers are requested to visit ACZ, whose offices are at 3rd Level, International Terminal Building, Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare, within 30 days of gazetting this notice for discussions on compensation.

“This development is being undertaken in terms of section 26 of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act [Chapter 29:12], Local Subject Plan number 31 and section 86 of the Civil Aviation Aerodromes Regulations of 2018 (Statutory Instrument 211 of 2018).

“The development is expected to serve as a vital catalyst for global trade and economic development, benefiting local, regional, and national levels.”
