Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Russian language training has been introduced for Zimbabweans, especially those intending to study or work in the Eastern European country.

The Russian Federation together with the Presidential Office for National Scholarships conducted a Russian open lesson in Harare on Friday.

More than one thousand people including students, business people and representatives from various government departments, have applied to take part in the first-ever Russian language programme.

Natalia Muzhennikova, who is the First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Zimbabwe, said her country has increased the number of Russian scholarships available for Zimbabwe. She said:

This event is the first one in the history of Zimbabwe and Russia. We have representatives from our state universities who are here for the first time.

As you know in Russia most of our programs at universities and colleges are conducted in the Russian language.

So those who want to have relationships with the Russian Federation, we have general language courses dedicated to everyone in Zimbabwe.

Students or journalists or people from different Zimbabwean agencies. We have increased the number of Russian scholarships.

Relations between Zimbabwe and the Russian Federation, a successor state of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), date back to the days of the liberation struggle.
