Scores Injured As Violence Erupts At MDC-T Meeting

Africa-PressZimbabwe. Scores of opposition MDC-T supporters were injured at a party meeting held Sunday at a senior leader’s house in Marlborough after intra-party violence erupted over an undisclosed matter.

The party that is led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora laid the blame on Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance. The party posted on social media:

_MDC-T Harare West district members gathered for a gap-filling meeting yesterday were attacked by MDC Alliance violent thugs. The violent thugs were gathered at Civic Centre in Marlborough. They attacked women and children and stabbed five MDC-T members._

Top MDC-T provincial official Charity Bango, who hosted the meeting, said she had nothing to comment when NewsDay contacted her for comment telling them to contact the party spokesperson.

MDC Alliance provincial youth secretary Denford Ngadziore denied any involvement in the squabbles. He said:

_During the said period and times of the allegations, I had made a special visit to some State institution with all the evidence in the public domain._

Police could not confirm the alleged clashes.

Some used the weekend incident and the chaotic December Extraordinary Congress to conclude that MDC-T was a violent party.

The incident happened after the ruling ZANU PF had also recorded an intra-party conflict in Chinhoyi on Saturday at a District Coordinating Committee (DCC) meeting over an undisclosed matter.

A video that circulated on social media shows members breaking bottles to be used to attack colleagues. Some threw missiles at colleagues who were running for dear life.
