Africa-PressZimbabwe. Zimbabwe experienced a shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake around noon today, Monday 14 June 2021.

According to South Africa’s Council for Geoscience (CGS), a magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported near Gweru, Midlands Province, at 1:53 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km.

reported that shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.

The exact magnitude, epicentre, and depth of the quake might be revised as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

The quake did not cause any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicentre, preliminary seismic data shows.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Lalapanzi located 20 km from the epicentre.

Other towns or cities near the epicentre where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Redcliffe located 57 km from the epicentre, Gweru 58 km away, Kwekwe 59 km away, Shurugwi 61 km away, Chivhu 65 km away, and Kadoma 104 km away.
