South Africa Plans One-Stop Border With Zimbabwe

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) says plans are underway to establish a one-stop border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe.

BMA Commissioner Mike Masiapato said the new border will allow both travellers and cargo trucks to be processed at a single point.

He also revealed plans to construct an additional bridge on the western side of the Limpopo River, specifically for cargo trucks.

Masiapato said the measures are expected to significantly reduce congestion at the busy port of entry. Said Masiapato:

“The implementation of the one-stop border post, one of the key strategic interventions and decisions of the government of South Africa, is very fundamental where we are sitting now.

“The negotiations are underway with successful bidders insofar as the public-private partnership is concerned.

“So, on that basis, we can indicate that during the current year 2026, we are going to start seeing that particular work gaining traction to the extent that there will be construction sometime this year, around the last quarter of the year.”
