Student Teachers Back Teachers’ Salary Strike “Regardless Of Consequences”

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Student teachers have said they back the industrial action over salaries by the Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) and all teachers nationwide. Some teachers refused to return to work when schools resumed on 7 February saying they are incapacitated. They want the government to pay them US$540 they were being paid in 2018. In previous articles, Pindula News reported that the government suspended the striking teachers for three months without pay. Teachers say the suspensions are meant to instil fear in teachers. We present the statement issued by the student teachers:

It has been noted that in times of great oppression the ones that choose to remain silent automatically sides with the oppressors. We as a progressive student representative council we would not side with any oppressors. We believe that teachers should be afforded the dignity and respect that befits the nation’s educators.

Teachers and indeed student teachers cannot continue to subsidize the government, a far more superior and rich institution. If this continued Job action is what it takes, then so be it the resistance of evil in and of itself is justified regardless of method or consequences.

Enough is Enough. Teachers cannot breathe.

AMANDLA!!!!!!!
