Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE shores of Lake Kariba played host to a powerful celebration of music, art and disability inclusion as the Kariba Performing Arts Association launched its new video song, Takafanana, at the Waterfront resort on Saturday.
Hundreds of music lovers and stakeholders gathered to witness the launch of this impactful anthem.
The song’s message is clear, people are the same, whether disabled or not and it’s time to celebrate shared humanity rather than discriminate against those with disabilities. Takafanana, which means “we are the same” in Shona, is more than just a song; it’s a movement. It’s a call to action to recognise the value and worth of every individual, regardless of their abilities.
Guest of honour, Shark Cruises director Chikomborero Jayiwa, commended the artistes behind the song, saying, “Having such songs that talk about the inclusion of the disabled will not only promote the local community but also beyond. I applaud Simba Chikomo and Jacob Zulu for their efforts to uplift local artistes in Kariba.”
Jacob Zulu, a representative of the Kariba Performing Arts Association, said: “We believe that music has the power to bring people together and to challenge societal norms. With Takafanana, we aim to promote a culture of inclusion and acceptance, where people with disabilities are valued and respected as equals.”
The event brought together various stakeholders, including residents’ associations, the media and performing arts groups from Kariba and neighbouring Siavonga, Zambia. As the song spreads its message of inclusivity and acceptance, it’s likely to resonate with audiences far beyond Kariba, inspiring a new wave of disability awareness and advocacy across Zimbabwe.
