Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has started a 12-day salary protest dubbed #JusticeforTrsZw campaign to push the government to restore the US$540 pre-October 2018 salaries.

ARTUZ last week gave the government an ultimatum to address their grievances saying they will down tools completely this Monday until the employer has addressed their challenges.

The protest coincides with learners starting their ZIMSEC examinations. ARTUZ posted an update on the campaign saying the campaign will be there for 12 days. Said ARTUZ:

Day 1 of the #JusticeforTrsZw campaign to #SaveOurEducationZw is a day for youth voices on education. We invite young people, youth organisations and youth-led organisations to help us amplify our call for pre-October 2018 salaries. In these 12 days of action, we target 12 voices for education.

To add your voice send us an audio message on +263776973293. Your messages will be compiled and broadcast. Send a solidarity message to [email protected] the messages will be compiled into a special bulletin to be published. Join the #JusticeforTrsZw on social media.

Teachers have over the past two years embarked on periodic protests over poor salaries and working conditions.

They say they are incapacitated to execute their duties and responsibilities.

The government has over the years been reviewing the salaries and also offered non-monetary benefits to cushion its workers from socio-economic bumps.

Workers, however, say the efforts by the government are not enough considering the inflationary environment prevailing in Zimbabwe.
