Truck Damages Trabablas Interchange Owner Ordered To Repair

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has confirmed an incident in which a truck belonging to Tika Chem Investments (Pvt) Ltd caused structural damage to the Trabablas Interchange.

According to the Ministry, the truck was transporting a granite stone on 8 July 2025 when its load dislodged, damaging newly constructed guard rails and the pavement at the interchange.

The Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) immediately impounded the vehicle and launched a full investigation.

Following the probe, the Ministry directed the trucking company to carry out full repairs at its own cost.

The truck will remain impounded until the necessary repairs have been satisfactorily completed and the vehicle is cleared by VID for roadworthiness. The Ministry said:

The truck will only be released upon satisfactory completion of the repairs and after VID has conducted the necessary inspections.

The Ministry used the incident to remind the public, especially transport operators, of their duty to uphold infrastructure safety and report negligence or vandalism. It said:

Failure to report infrastructure damage contributes to unnecessary financial burdens on taxpayers… Let us work together to preserve our national infrastructure for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Ministry has also encouraged the public to share videos, pictures, or reports of infrastructure damage with relevant authorities.
