Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Two Vietnamese women appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court this week, facing allegations of human trafficking and overstaying their visas in Zimbabwe.
The accused, Huu Dao Phan (28) and Thi My Quyen Duong (26), are alleged to have recruited a fellow Vietnamese national in August 2025, promising her a lucrative job as a massage therapist in Zimbabwe. Upon her arrival on 14 August, the complainant reportedly had her passport confiscated by the accused.
According to court documents, the victim was forced to work at multiple massage parlours without pay, even while ill.
She allegedly suffered physical assaults resulting in bruises on her face and body, prompting her to report the abuse to the police.
In addition to the human trafficking charges, the women are accused of overstaying their visas beyond the permitted 30 days, failing to renew their permits after they expired on 13 September 2025.
The duo was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on 26 September for routine remand proceedings.
