Update: Six-year-old Mauled To Death By Boer Bulldogs

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported that a six-year-old girl was mauled to death by two Boer bulldogs on Wednesday in Bulawayo. A police report seen by Pindula News does not give further details. Reads the statement:

ZRP Hillside is investigating an unfortunate incident in which a six-year-old juvenile was mauled to death by two vicious Boer bulldogs on 24/08/22 at a house along Chemsford Road, Matsheumhlophe, Bulawayo.

The Sunday News, however, reports that the deceased was bitten by dogs belonging to the house owner where her parents were tenants.

The incident took place at around 7 am on Wednesday when the girl left the cottage which they rent to go to the main house intending to check whether there was electricity.

The cottage is about 100 metres from the main house. The owner of the house then heard her screaming and she looked out through the window and saw their two Boerboel dogs attacking the child. The Sunday News cites Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube as saying:

She went out of the main house and tried to restrain the dogs, one of the dogs released the deceased but the other one resisted and dragged her for about 10 metres. We urge members of the public to build kennels for their dogs and avoid letting their dogs to roam freely as this may lead to unnecessary loss of life.

The incident has triggered calls for individuals who keep dogs to have licences to keep these dogs as the breed is “not for everyone.” A commentator said:

If the master is weak at breaking/training the dog in its early ages they can never manage it when its full temper rises… Parliament of Zimbabwe. How many deaths should we have before we decide enough is enough?

Meanwhile, police in Concession arrested Jane Ndengu (37) on the 23rd of this month in connection with a murder case which had occurred the previous day at Mufenje Farm Compound.

Police report that Ndengu pulled the private parts of her husband, Stick Chapondaminga (37), during a fight. Chapondaminga had accused his wife of engaging in an extramarital affair.

Reported cases of domestic violence are said to have increased since 2020 when the COVID-19 lockdowns were imposed. Some attribute the fights to depression associated with economic challenges.
