The Victoria Falls Covid-19 Task Force says it has so far mobilised more than 50 thousand United states dollars from the Coronavirus fundraising initiative and secured a ventilator as well as Personal Protective Equipment PPEs.
The country’s premier tourism destination Victoria Falls has taken bold steps to contain the spread of the Coronavirus by implementing precautionary measures and setting up a vibrant covid-19 taskforce.
Victoria Falls Covid-19 Task Force Head of Finance and Resources, Andrew Lane applauded various stakeholders for their positive response to the fundraising initiative which has resulted in substantial funds and critical medical equipment being mobilized.
‘The fundraising initiative has been a great success to date and is a constant work in progress. We have had interests and donations from so many people who live in Victoria Falls and those who have visited and hold fond memories of the Victoria Falls. So far we have raised US$58 000 to date plus donations of equipment,’ said Lane..
The Task Force which has so far purchased a ventilator with two more set to be acquired through donations.
Confidence is also high that they will reach the target of 100 000 US dollars with the current donation having surpassed the 50 000 US dollar mark.
A Member of the Task Force, Pastor Stanfordias Ndlovu commended well-wishers who have assisted with food stuffs which will be handed over to vulnerable members of the community.
‘We are of course appealing for more food stuffs because of have a larger percentage of our population affected due to covid-19 induced jobs cuts. Close to 90 percent of our population here depend on tourism which was heavily affected by covid-19,’’ said Ndlovu.
Having completed the renovations of the first covid-19 isolation centre, the task force is now working on equipping the facility and work is set to commence on the sprucing up and kitting of the second facility.
