A VICTORIA Falls inmate’s bid to break out of prison failed after residents teamed up with prison officers to apprehend the prisoner.

The 17-year-old inmate was sentenced to a four-year jail term on the 8th of this month for 8 counts of unlawful entry and theft.
Popularly known as Zinedine, the inmate reminded onlookers of the popular video game ‘Temple Run’ as he raced around Victoria Falls Central Business District in quest for freedom.

The young man was taken to court this morning and as they were about to leave courtroom he just started sprinting towards the precast wall and jumped into the ZIMRA premises.
Officers started chasing him and were joined by members of the public.

The drama which lasted about 10 minutes ended with the daring inmate being apprehended, thanks to efforts from members of the public.

According to information from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), Zinedine faces 17 other counts of unlawful entry and theft.
