Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa, was on Wednesday assisted into the courtroom in a wheelchair at the Harare magistrates court.

Mubaiwa’s ambulance was barred from entering court premises and she was also denied entry into the courtroom on a stretcher.

Her lawyers, Beatrice Mtetwa and Douglas Coltart had to scrounge for a wheelchair before their client was taken to a courtroom.

Mubaiwa reportedly winced in pain as her wheelchair was forced through uneven pavements to court 18, where magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka presided over the hearing.

She is facing a charge of assaulting a maid, Delight Munyoro, at Hellenic School in Borrowdale, Harare, in 2020.

The case was postponed to September 19 after it emerged that the presiding magistrate on the case was absent.

The State alleges that Mubaiwa assaulted Munyoro, following an altercation over the custody of her children with Chiwenga.

Last week, a magistrate slapped Mubaiwa with an arrest warrant after she failed to make it up the stairs to a courtroom where the case was being heard.

Mtetwa successfully sought cancellation of the arrest warrant after arguing that the default was not willful.
