Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The National Soccer Supporters Association (NSSA) has called on the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to relieve Warriors head coach Michael Nees of his duties, arguing that the German’s continued tenure is a disservice to the national team.
Nees’s record has come under intense scrutiny, with just two wins from 14 matches, placing him among the country’s least successful national team coaches in the past 45 years.
Adomsi Mukasi, NSSA vice president, accused ZIFA of shortchanging the nation by failing to act sooner.
He warned that the coach’s poor results were jeopardising the prospects of Zimbabwean football. Said Mukasi:
“We will now be going into tournaments with a weaker ranking, and we will be paired against the big boys.
“ZIFA should know that Nees’ continued stay as Warriors coach is a big disservice to the nation. It is daylight robbery to the fans.”
Former national team player and coach Gibson Homela criticised ZIFA for being overly lenient with Nees.
Homela argued that responsibility for the Warriors’ poor performances should not rest solely on the head coach but on the entire coaching department.
Nees has faced intensified scrutiny following consecutive 1-0 defeats to Benin and Rwanda in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Since his appointment, he has secured only two victories, both against Namibia, a team Zimbabwe would typically be expected to overcome.
