Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Ambassador Cain Mathema has said the ministry is ready to reopen schools they are just waiting for the government’s directive to open their doors and let learners start learning, ZBC News reports.
Mathema said this as he was announcing the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Board in Bulawayo when he said:
Ministry officials and myself have been on a whirlwind assessing the situation in schools. We are confident and ready to open schools, but the safety of learners is important. When it’s safe to do so, the President will advise.
During Tuesday’s post-cabinet briefing the Minister of information, Monica Mutsvangwa simply said the government was preparing to reopen schools but did not shed more information if schools will be opened in the near future.
Leaners were last in class on 18 December and they were supposed to have been back in school on 4 January before the government announced a 30 days national lockdown due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Zimbabwe.
