We Must Deliver On The People’s Will – ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the ruling ZANU PF has to ensure that developmental projects which are premised at transforming the lives of the general populace come to fruition.

He made the remarks in his address to the Mashonaland East Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting at Marondera High School on Saturday.

Mnangagwa also underscored the need for the party to work towards eradicating corruption which he said is rampant in local government authorities nationwide. He said:

There is corruption especially in urban councils and there is an ongoing probe which is dealing with rot in councils.

In Harare, we have arrested 26 councillors and we have a list of council officials that is still under investigation. So the party leadership must make sure they expose that corruption and poor service delivery. The party must actively participate, monitor and evaluate the performance of local authorities and implementation of projects.

We must deliver on the people’s will by implementing projects which impact on the lives of our people. The Second Republic gives emphasis on prioritising the completion of projects.

The government is implementing a number of projects including road construction, rehabilitation and construction of schools, health facilities, agricultural projects and provision of clean water.

His remarks come when his critics say the “New Dispensation” has so far “failed” to deliver on election promises which include job creation, stabilisation and transformation of the economy as well as upliftment of living standards in general.

The president, however, claims that his administration is on course to fulfilling the promises before the expiration of his first term in 2023 albeit hurdles including “sanctions,” “sabotage” and “natural disaster – coronavirus.”
