Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) board has pledged to support the government in amplifying issues aligned to the development of youths in the country.

Addressing the media after the appointment of the board, chairperson Rutendo Mugwagwa said they were grateful for the opportunity given to youths by the second republic, which includes them in governance issues.

She said the council would be working on enhancing its systems to support youth, calling on associated organisations to embrace the renewed culture of accountability.

“Let us work together to build a credible, united and responsive youth sector — a stronger, more transparent and more empowered youth movement. We believe in your potential and with your co-operation the future of Zimbabwe is brighter than ever,” she said.

“This moment marks a significant milestone in our journey as young people of this great nation. In that regard, we would like to greatly appreciate the efforts made by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe for this progressive development.

“The second republic has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to youth, not only through this gesture, but by appointing young people in key decision-making positions in government, for this we are grateful.

“We affirm our collective commitment to youth development and position ourselves as reliable partners in Zimbabwe’s transformation.”

She encouraged stakeholders — government departments, NGOs, development partners and the private sector to engage and support youth associations, thereby strengthening their shared mission.

Meanwhile, Youth Development, Empowerment and Vocational Training minister Tinoda Machakaire said, “This board will enhance our efforts in promoting youth participation, economic empowerment and leadership development across the nation.”

The new board replaces the one appointed in 2021, whose tenure expired.

ZYC is a corporate body, established by an Act of Parliament, the Zimbabwe Youth Council Act, as amended in 1997.
