Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Informal traders affiliated with Zanu PF’s affiliate Vendors for ED group have started receiving disbursements from the Presidential Revolving Fund through the Empowerment Bank.
The initiative follows the recent launch of the $200,000 revolving fund by Presidential Adviser Paul Tungwarara at the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo.
In an interview, chairperson, Samora Chisvo, said the fund was only open to members of the ruling party.
“We are monitoring the movement and distribution of the money from one vendor to another, ensuring nationwide coverage. Disbursements are being processed through the Empowerment Bank,” Chisvo said.
He said the group has enlisted Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts to digitize its database and streamline the fund’s distribution exercise to enhance transparency.
The amounts disbursed vary depending on the scale of each vendor’s business.
“As vendors, we are grateful for what President Mnangagwa has done for us,” said Bulawayo chapter chairperson Sindisiwe Moyo in another interview.
Vice-chairperson of the group, Nyarai Simendi added: “As vendors, we had been left behind. We are truly thankful.”
In a related development, the Presidential Community Fisheries Scheme is reportedly transforming rural livelihoods through improved nutrition, job creation, and income generation.
This was said by Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Davis Marapira, during a recent tour of village fish ponds in Guruve, Mashonaland Central Province.
“This is not just about fishing, it is about economic empowerment, improved nutrition, and employment creation for our people, especially in remote areas,” Marapira said.
“Zimbabwe’s fisheries industry has huge potential, and we are taking deliberate steps to harness it.”
The programme, launched in 2021, targets to set up 1,200 village fish ponds countrywide.
It is part of broader efforts to ensure household food security, diversify incomes, and improve protein intake in rural diets.
Each pond is stocked with thousands of fingerlings, mainly tilapia, and managed by local communities.
