ZESA Announces Increased Nationwide Load-Shedding

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has announced increased load-shedding starting on Wednesday the 13th of July 2022. In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZETDC said power cuts will be implemented nationwide. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) would like to advise its valued customers countrywide that there will be increased load curtailment from the 13th of July 2022.

This is due to depressed local power generation coupled by increased electricity demand in winter and power import constraints. Our Engineers are still working round the clock to ensure full restoration of service.

Customers are advised to use electricity sparingly and to always switch off electrical appliances when not in use.

The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.

Meanwhile, no load-shedding schedule has been issued to guide consumers.

Zimbabwe has been having power cuts in the past two years amid reports that the country’s main power generators, Hwange Thermal and Kariba Hydro Power Stations have not been producing to their maximum capacity due to faults.

Power imports power from neighbouring Mozambique and South Africa have gone down due to debts and the incapacity of suppliers such as ESKOM to generate enough power for their own use.
